Small changes can make a huge impact, especially if practised collectively. We should all strive for a more eco-conscious lifestyle and reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. It is not always simple, but some easy, eco-friendly swaps will not break the bank and your sanity.  These sustainable alternatives can be effortlessly incorporated into our daily routine.

Easy Eco-friendly Swaps when On the Go

  • Reusable water bottles, thermos and coffee cups for homemade beverages instead of plastic bottles and take-out coffee cups.
  • Lunch boxes – jars – silicon bags – beeswax wraps for lunches and snacks when out and about. 
  • Reusable totes and shopping bags for shopping trips and grocery shopping. Baskets or backpacks are also great options. 
  • Bamboo or stainless steel straws and cutlery instead of single-use plastic alternatives. 

Personal care

  • Solid shampoo and conditioner. Solid shower bar and body lotion. They are easy to use and carry with you on a trip or in the gym.
  • Solid deodorant or natural one packaged in compostable or recyclable materials. Avoid aerosol cans and plastic packaging. 
  • Dental tabs or paste in glass containers and biodegradable dental floss.
  • Bamboo toothbrush.
  • DIY your skincare and makeup using natural ingredients. It is beneficial for your skin and the environment.

  • Compostable sponges and wipes.
  • Swap single-use paper towels for reusable cloth towels. 
  • Replace all synthetic home fragrances with essential oil diffusers and eliminate toxic chemicals that most air fresheners contain.
  • Replace traditional light bulbs with LED bulbs. They are energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions. 
  • Compost. Compost bins are inexpensive and easy to use. Compost your food scraps and enrich your garden soil. 
  • Air-dry your clothes instead of using a dryer whenever weather conditions allow. 
  • Swap regular diapers with cloth, compostable or reusable diapers for babies. 
  • Whenever replacing home appliances, search for energy-saving alternatives.
