Home Remedies and Practical Tips
Did you notice that during your summer holiday, you get naturally glowing skin without much effort? Did you ever wonder why is that? While, on the other hand, keeping up with our daily lives seems much more difficult to keep that radiant look. So, let’s explore how to glow and shine in summer without stepping foot in a spa.
Glowing skin number one tip: hydrate!
Hydration is a key. Your entire body and your skin need better hydration in summer. Drink plain water, cold tea, infused water, or make your electrolyte drinks. Avoid sugary drinks as they tend to make matters worse.

Naturally glowing summer skin tip two: reduce stress!
Chronic stress is our beauty enemy and needs to be addressed adequately. If you are in a constant fight-or-flight situation, it’s time to take action. Try yoga, meditation, journaling, or spending time in nature regularly.
Radiant skin tip three: eat a healthy balanced diet!
Diet is fundamental for your overall health and also your skin. Our bodies regenerate and create new cells every day. We need good quality nutrients for the correct functioning of our bodies. So eat up your fruit and veggies as they are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
For naturally glowing skin, include berries, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, avocados, and fatty fish in your diet all year round. We do want radiant skin in winter also!
Tip four: get enough sleep!
We should all opt for at least 7 to 8 hours every night. We need sleep to regenerate and repair body damage. Lack of sleep results in dull skin quickly. Try using sleep monitoring apps to assess the quality of your sleep. Consider trying silk pillowcases to enhance your efforts even further. Silk pillows help reduce friction and regulate temperature which helps protect your face and hair!
Naturally glowing skin tip five: exercise regularly!
Exercising improves circulation, and your overall health, helps maintain a strong and fit body, and, of course, is fundamental for healthy skin. So sweat up. Just don’t forget to clean your skin from sweat and impurities afterwards.
Tip six: avoid harsh chemicals!
The skin can get sensitive and irritable in summer. Simplify your skincare routine and ditch all harsh chemicals, sulfates and artificial fragrances as they tend to strip your skin from its natural oils.
Naturally glowing skin tip seven: reduce make-up to the bare minimum!
Heavy make-up in summer is a no-no. We don’t want clogged pores and breakouts. Use only lightweight, non-comedogenic products and let your skin glow.

Tip eight: take care of your lips!
Lips get easily cracked and chapped in summer. To keep your lips plump and soft, exfoliate, moisturise, and protect them from the sun.
Radiant summer skin tip nine: stay cool!
Summer heat can be harsh on your skin, therefore it is important to stay cool. It is helpful to use a facial mist or toner throughout the day. Plus, they are easy to make at home with simple natural ingredients.
Why not try this simple DIY cucumber and rose water mist? You only need half a cucumber and one cup of rose water. Blend cucumber, strain the juice, mix with rose water and pour in a small spray bottle. It is that simple!
if you are up for an extra step, try freezing cucumber juice-infused water. Lightly drag the ice cubes over your face and neck to refresh and tone your skin.
Tip ten: exfoliate your skin regularly!
Reveal naturally glowing skin by getting rid of dead skin cells. In summer we should include exfoliation into our routine twice a week. Also, it’s easy to create a homemade scrub. Most of us have the necessary ingredients in our pantries.
Coffee scrub is perfect for summer as it also helps tighten skin! Mix 1/4 cup coffee grounds, 2 tablespoons coconut oil and 1 tablespoon brown sugar. Massage your skin with this mixture in a circular motion, leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. I prefer using this scrub in a shower as it can get messy.
Beautiful summer skin tip eleven: use a toner!
Toner can help normalise skin pH and also shrink pores. Commercial toners can easily be replaced with witch hazel or rose water.
Tip twelve: keep your skin clean!
You should cleanse your skin at least twice daily to remove dirt, makeup, sweat, and other impurities.
Tip thirteen: protect your skin!
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable. When outdoors, reapply it every couple of hours.

Naturally glowing skin tip fourteen: moisturise with natural oils!
Coconut oil is great for summer moisturisation. On top of that, it has antibacterial properties to maintain your skin healthy and prevent breakouts. It is quick and easy: apply to your skin before bedtime and rinse off in the morning.
Aloe vera gel is perfect for soothing and moisturising the skin. It is my number one go-to remedy in case of sunburn or skin irritations. the best is fresh aloe gel extracted from aloe leaves. However, you can buy ready-to-use organic gel. Make sure it is 100% aloe gel though. Apply the gel on your skin for at least 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
Tip fifteen: use a face mask regularly!
Skin masks are great for giving your skin an instant boost. There are plenty of DIY recipes with natural ingredients. My top two masks for naturally glowing skin in summer are turmeric and yoghurt, or cucumber and mint.
For the turmeric and yoghurt mask, you will need 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 2 tablespoons of yoghurt and a few drops of honey. Mix all ingredients to form a paste, apply to your skin for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. This mask is magically brightening!
And, for the cucumber and mint mask, you will need half a cucumber, a handful of fresh mint leaves and a tablespoon of yoghurt. Blend cucumber and mint, add yoghurt and mix thoroughly. Apply to your face for 15 minutes and rinse with cool water. This mask is incredibly refreshing!
