30-Day Decluttering Challenge

neat and tidy clutter free pantry

We live in a fast-paced world and consumerist culture is highly encouraged. Therefore our living spaces get chaotic and overwhelming quickly, often without us being aware. Ready to roll up your sleeves, reclaim your space, and eliminate all unnecessary items? Then this 30-day decluttering challenge is a great way to start.

Why a 30-day decluttering challenge?

Decluttering is difficult and often can get emotional. I have another article about why decluttering is difficult, you can find it here. A 30-day decluttering challenge helps break down daunting tasks into more manageable daily tasks. It provides a deadline, so you won’t feel like it’s endless. This challenge allows you to focus on one area at a time. Following this approach will help you transform your home without feeling overwhelmed.

The 30-day decluttering challenge is simple and structured. You will only need to commit to daily tasks that are often small. By following your daily tasks you will make steady progress. Ant the best thing is that you will be able to build lasting habits allowing you to create less clutter in the future.

Where to start

There are some tips and tricks to help you complete your 30-day decluttering challenge successfully. The first thing to keep in mind is preparation. It can make a significant difference.

  • Set clear goals

Why do you want to declutter? What would you like to achieve? For example, create a serene and welcoming atmosphere, optimise your living spaces to suit your lifestyle better, or have a tidier and more organised home.

Knowing exactly what you are trying to achieve will give you clear focus and energy to follow through. The WHY is what keeps you going when it gets tough.

  • Gather supplies

It is much easier to work when you have all the necessary tools on hand. You will need garbage bags, donation and storage boxes, and cleaning supplies. I usually get my all-surface cleaner and a couple of cleaning rags. I also recommend having a basket for any misplaced items. Then, after the daily task is done, I walk around the house and put these items in their proper spaces.

  • Create a checklist

The checklist helps maintain focus and track progress. Decluttering is an individual process. No household is the same. The checklist also depends on your goals. There might be fewer areas you wish to tackle but deal with them from the roof to the ground. It is fine. You can create a perfect checklist to suit your plans.

Below I will share a general outline of the 30-day decluttering challenge to get you started. Feel free to modify it to suit your needs. You might prefer to create a new one. In any case, I hope you find help and inspiration.
